Stongdey Information, Kargil, Jammu and Kashmir
The monastery of Stongdey lies 18 kms. to the north of Padum on the road leading to Zangla, perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the oasis like village below. Stongdey is the second largest monastic establishment of Zanskar and houses a number of temples and the Gon - Khang, a well guarded room containing fierce faced deities which are mostly veiled. They are the guardian deities of the Buddhist pantheon.
