Panikhar lies spread under the shadows of the Nan-Kun matsij at a distance of about 67 kms to the south of Kargil. Panikhar comprises of beautiful expanse of Suru valley with a dozen villages, intensively cultivated plateau, a base station for long treks in the direction of Kashmir, Kishtwar, the Nun-kun vew saddlt in the Parkachik ridge, majestic Parkachik galcier across a good suspension foot bridge over suru and a base for many trans-Hmalayan traverses.
