Padum Information, Kargil, Jammu and Kashmir
Padum was the capital of ancient kingdom of Zanskar and today is administrative headquarters of the region. It is the most populaous settlement of Zanskar and a major trekking base. It is laso an atrractive tourist destination with quality charms like a set of ancient 8th century rock carvings on a huge boulder near the river bank, the Stagrimo monastery, the old village of Pibiting dominated by its picturesque hilltop monastery.
The main camp site and the small hotel areais close to the newly constructed mosque (the only one in Zanskar region) which serves the sunni Muslim community. Padum is also the starting point fora number of demanding treks.
