Karsha Information, Kargil, Jammu and Kashmir
Karsha is the largest and wealthiest of all monasteries in Zanskar. It dates back to the 16th century. The largest monastic establishment of Zanskar is an imposing complex of neatly white washed chappels and rooms. The centrel with an array of figures, statues and ornate throne of Lama-incarnate, chappel adorned with silver and copper chortens, old Thankas, frecoes in the chamber accessible through a vent, the Lhabrang, the nunnery Dorje Dzong, old temple of Chukshit-Jal are some of the major attractions. The event to witness at Karsh is the 3 day long Gustor Festival held during July.
