Connaught Place is the busiest tourist centre at the northern end of New Delhi. Built in 1931, and named after king Emperor George V's uncle, the duke of Connaught, this complex is made up of three concrete circles of colonnaded arcades and is the heart of New Delhi. A busy commercial hub, it is also a popular place to shop and has a number of reasonably restuarants, airline offices and fast food outlets.
It is spacious but busy. The central park fountains is a place frequented by freelance artists. In 1995, the inner and outer circle were named Rajiv Chowk and Indira Chowk respectively, but everyone still calls it Connaught Place despite the signs. The outer circle is known as Connaught Circus.
