Tughlaqabad is the third city of Delhi with 13 gateways and it was built by ghiyasuddin Tughlaq. A fort lies to the east of Qutub Minar. The contruction involves a legendary quarrel btween the saint Nizamuddin and the Tughlaq ruler for the want of workers and the dispute ended when the king was murdered on his way from delhi in 1325. This indeed was a prediction taking shape when the saint calmy told his followers - "Delhi is a long way off" when the king was preparing for vengeance.
Outside the city wall towards the south is the king's tomb at the centre of an artificial lake. Tughlaqabad's ruins still convey a sense of the power and energy of the newly arrived Muslims in India.
