Diwali-Deepawali:
The most important of all the Hindu festivals,this happiest and noisiest festival of the hindu calendar is celebrated on the 15th day of Kartika and typically lasts for five days.At night, decorative oil lamps are lit to show Lord Rama the way home from his period of exile.The festival is also dedicated to Lakshmi (particularly in Mumbai)and to Kali (Kolkatta).Symbolically, the rows of lights that twinkle in the millions of households show Lord Rama the way to home after his period of exile.Diwali is also celebrated as Narak Chaturdashi,the day when Lord Krishna killed the demon of dirt and darkness. Rituals include pre-dawn oil bath and wearing new cloths. The business community who worship Lakshmi – the goddess of prosperity,celebrates this festival as the New Year.It has also become the Festival Of Sweets!!
Govardhan Pooja:
A Hindu festival dedicated to that holiest of animals – the cow.
