Republic Day:Celebrated on 26th January.Republic Day celebrates the anniversary of India's establishment as a Republic.In the nation's capital at New delhi,an enormously colourful military parade is taken out.Extravagant floats and dances from all the parts of the country form a part of this exciting spectacle.On January 27th and 28th, folk dance festivals are held.The final programme is Beating Of The Retreat ceremony.It takes place outside the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

Pongal:Pongal,a tamil festival marks the start of the suns' journey to the northern Hemisphere. It is celebrated all over the country as Makar Sankranti.People take a dip in a lake,river,sea or a pond and worship the sun.In Tamil Nadu,Pongla is a joyous 3-day affair.an interesting ritual in this festival is the boiling over of a pot of Pongla (a mixture of rice,sugar,dal and jaggery). Through this symbolic gesture,they ask the powers to bless thier house with so much wealth and prsoperity that it overflows!On the final day,cattle are washed and decorated.In some parts,the Jellikattu is held where yound men try to remove mony tied to the horns of ferocious bulls.In Gujarat,kite flying makrs Makara Sankranti.

Vasant Panchami:Vasant Panchmi is celebrated in the honour of goddess Saraswati,the goddess of wisdom and learning.Books,musical intruments and other objects related to arts and education are palced infront of the goddess to receive her blessings.
