Sankar Gompa is one of few Gompas built in the valley bottom off the yellow Haat sector. It was built during the 17th century and is a 3km pleasant walk past the Hiamlayan hotel through the fields. It houses the cheif Lama of Spituk and 20 others. The newer monks' quarters are on the three sides of the courtyard with steps leading upto the Du-khang (Assembly Hall).
