Shalimar Bagh (garden) was built by Emperor Jehangir for his wife Noor Jahan. The gardens are distinguished by a series of terraces linked by a water channel. These are surrounded by decorative pools, which can only be reached by stepping stones. The uppermost pavilion has elegant black marble pillars and niches in the walls for flowers during the day and candles or lamps at the night. Harwan runs through the middle of the garden.
The fourth terrace is by far the best and was once reserved for the royal ladies. India Tourism Development Corporation runs a Son-et-Lumiere show in this garden from May to October.
