Visit To Diwan-I-Am
Diwan-I-Am is located between the first inner court and the royal palaces at the heart of Red Fort. It is also called as Hall of Public Audience. It is the farthest point the normal visitor would reach as where the emperor would sit to hear the complaints or disputes from his subjects. It has many dramatic events of the destructive whirlwind of the Persian Nadir Shah - the Afghan in 1756, and the trial of the last king of Delhi, Baoli Bahadur Shah II in 1858.
His alcove in the wall was marble paneled and set with precious stones, many of which were looted following the 1857 uprising. The well proportioned hall was both a functional building and a showpiece intended to hint the opulence of the palace itself. The throne surround at the back of the hall is a paltform for the emperor's throne, which was known as "The seat of the shadow of God". Around this, was a gold railing within which stood the princes and the great nobles. Behind the Diwan-I-Am is the private enclosure of the fort.
